Kumi Korf likes to make to make multiples, that is ‘squares’ of unrelated abstractions linked together to form panels of shapes and colors.
Unlike the repetitive images of the Pop generation, Korf’s multiple images stand alone as separate pieces of her thought process; each a contemplative element in a matrix of veiled memories.
She seeks a balance between the Eastern culture she was born into and the Western world, especially 20th century Modernism, that she has adopted as her home. Allowing impulse and intuition into her compositions and colors, she creates complex multiple-plate intaglio prints that have a quiet, seemingly effortless beauty.
A color catalogue of the artist’s work is available.
